President EONS 2011-13

As President for EONS I would like to welcome you to our web site. The strength of EONS comes from its co-operation with a range of multidisciplinary and patient organisations with which it collaborates to optimise the nursing contribution to cancer care in Europe.

When planning the strategic direction for EONS it is so important that we reflect and ask if we meeting the needs of the patients and we should never forget why we are here.

An organization as big as EONS needs your help in doing this, through the national societies, the advisory board meetings, working groups, EONS conferences and education activities, projects and individual members. We need your feedback and collaboration. We need to know that we are going in the right direction.

Do we make a difference for you as cancer nurses and through your work - for your patients? Are we transparent?

As President for EONS I believe that the overall goal will be to continue to have focus on the need for specialization of cancer nurses; to have a political awareness of how important cancer nurses are in the role of the best care for patients. We need to look on the perspective of cancer nursing today, in particular how we view and perceive cancer.

We need to build the understanding of cancer as a chronic disease and show that nurses plays an important role as a drive shaft for rehabilitation and palliative care with increasing specialization required.

In view of the current financial crises and in some countries - new rules for the industry to support/sponsor activities for health care systems and organization - EONS has a future challenge targeting new ways to secure financial support and source other alternatives.
