Breast cancer gene profile identifies early v late recurrences

US research suggests that a genetic test may be able to identify women likely to have early recurrence of oestrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. (Early recurrence is defined as recurrence within three years.) This may help to avoid giving unnecessary chemotherapy to patients who do not have tumours consistent with early relapse.
