PBSC transplants: no advantage over bone marrow

Peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplants show no survival advantage over bone marrow transplants when the donor is not an immunologically compatible sibling of the recipient, according to US research. The research also shows that the blood stem cell transplants carry a higher risk of chronic extensive graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
