Cancer Genome Atlas maps breast cancer types
Added: Thursday 4 October 2012
A huge genetic analysis, described by the New York Times as electrifying the field of breast cancer research, suggests that there are four main breast cancer subtypes. The research, not yet published in print, hypothesises that most variation happens within, not across, these main subtypes. The research also found molecular similarity between basal-type breast cancer and serous ovarian cancer. It is possible that in the future, research will focus on the genomic profiles of cancers rather than their site of origin in the body.
