International consensus on what recurrence means
Added: Monday 26 January 2015
In the field of breast cancer research, the concept of "recurrence" is often poorly defined and varies from study to study. But now an international team of breast cancer experts has reached a consensus on how to classify recurrence. Consensus was reached on 134 items in four categories: local events, second primary breast cancer, regional events and distant events. The team who worked on the definitions are now recommending that future researchers use these definitions in their work. This will improve transparency and make it easier for scientists to review and analyse each otherís work.
