Women eligible for lumpectomy still choosing mastectomy
Added: Thursday 7 May 2015
Research presented at the recent annual meeting of the American Surgical Association finds that women who are eligible for a lumpectomy are still choosing to have their entire breast removed, despite the fact that lumpectomy was successful in 90 percent of eligiible patients who choose it. Researchers said they are uncertain as to reasons for this, but hope that their research will encourage breast cancer patients and clinicians to think again about the options.
