UK government pauses progress of health bill
Friday 4 November 2011
The UK government has put the progression of its Health & Social Care Bill on hold to avoid an embarrassing rebellion from key members of the House of Lords. This means that if the Bill does go through, it may not be ready by the end of the parliamentary session in April. The Health & Social Care Bill would open the English NHS up to competition between health care providers. The main argument in the House of Lords is about the UK government's plan to hand over its constitutional responsibility for health services to an unelected body.
