The rates of breast cancer in women in the United States are almost double those of women in some South American countries. According to statistics from GLOBOCAN 2008, a project of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in France, 76 per every 100,000 women in the United States (adjusted for age) were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, compared with 44 per 100,000 in South America.
