Past projects
For over 20 years, EONS been working with practitioners, national societies and industry to create education programmes that make a real difference to the lives of nurses and the people they care for.
Some of the older projects that are no longer actively pursued are listed here, to give an idea of the range and scope of EONS activities.
- Nutrition in Oncology Educational Program (NOEP) which raised awareness on the importance of the role of nutrition, improved nurses’ knowledge of and practise in nutrition, and emphasised the importance of the multidisciplinary team in nutritional aspects of patient management.
- Development of educational materials for use in national training courses on altered body image, emesis, pain, psychological disorders and infection (Cancer Care Priorities for Nurses Project, supported by Smith Kline Beecham Pharmaceuticals).
- Pan European implementation of the programme ‘Learning to Live with Cancer’, developed by Gertrud Grahn.
- Development of an educational programme for advancing oncology nursing practice and the formulation of standards against which to audit cancer nursing, a joint project with the European Quality Assurance Network (EuroQuan).
- Co-facilitator in WISECARE (Workflow Information Systems for European Nursing care) funded by the European Commission. This project aims to identify the unique contribution of cancer nursing across Europe through the use of information technology and involves five countries.
- Collaboration with European and international organizations to foster the status and advancement of cancer nursing in Europe.
- Study on assessment of chemotherapy induced nausea/emesis, supported by Merck.
