The meeting is scheduled to take place after the EONS General meeting in the same room. We kindly invite the designated delegates of our Society members to take part in this meeting. EONS individual members and EONS associate members can join as observers. More will follow about this, so stay tuned but please put the date in your diary now! It would be great if you could let us know you are coming to the AC by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
EONS Advisory Council 2018
The EONS Advisory Council meeting took place on the morning of Friday 19 October at the EONS11/ESMO conference venue before the start of the ESMO Congress.
The meeting was preceded by the EONS General meeting in the same meeting venue. The assigned representatives of the EONS Advisory Council were invited to attend this meeting to hear about the updated EONS Strategy 2018-2020 and the opportunity to liaise with each other in order to allow for constructive thinking about the challenges that lie ahead. The participants were invited to present their view in what ways to strengthen the ECND message and take it forward for 2019. The draft minutes of the meeting are included under Further Information, as well as the presentation made during the meeting.
EONS Advisory Council 2017
The EONS Advisory Council meeting took place on the morning of Sunday 19 November from 11.00-12.00, prior to the EONS Leadership Summit on Sunday afternoon at the Reehorst Hotel in Ede, near Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
This year, the Advisory Council was in a totally different format. Lena Sharp, who had just been confirmed and congratulated as the new EONS President at the preceding EONS General Meeting, welcomed the delegates of the EONS Advisory Council. Cora Vegter, chair of the Dutch Oncology Nursing Society (V&VN) provided the participants with a short outline related to the organisation and the way it is structured and functioning.
A big part of the meeting was aimed at providing a discussion platform related to the consequences of Brexit. The implications of this referendum are many and usually focus on trade and issues such as border control and the ‘divorce bill’ but many other areas will also be affected in both the UK and the EU, and health is certainly one of them. A number of representatives from different countries presented their view on how Brexit would affect the work of cancer nurses in their country, in what way it could affect access to oncology treatments, and consideration was given to whether EONS could engage in some way with Brexit.
The agenda and presentation from the meeting as well as the draft minutes are available in the Further Information section of this page.
EONS Advisory Council 2016
The 2016 Advisory Council (AC) meeting took place on the afternoon and evening of Sunday 16 October 2016, prior to EONS-10 in Dublin, and was particularly well attended, with 36 participants from 19 countries.
Instead of the usual stand-alone Advisory Council meeting in November, the 2016 meeting took place just before the EONS-10 congress (Dublin, 17-18 October). This decision was taken to reduce time and travel costs by cutting the number of key events between October 2016 and January 2017 (EONS-10, AC meeting, ECCO congress) from three to two.
Daniel Kelly, EONS President, and Pauline Kehoe, President of the Irish Association for Nurses in Oncology (IANO) welcomed the participants and Pauline presented a brief overview of the background, history and role of the IANO.
EONS President and Board members then delivered an update on the work of EONS and progress made on achieving key goals. Participants were invited take part in an brainstorming session on various important issues, which resulted in some very interesting and useful feedback.
In the evening, all participants were invited to join an evening of Irish dance, with World Championship dancers and All-Ireland winning musicians showcasing some of Ireland’s ‘sean nos’ (old style) Irish dance, including the famous ‘Brush Dance’. The networking evening included a three-course traditional Irish dinner.
Please find the agenda of the meeting, the presentations delivered and the minutes in the Further Information section of this page.

EONS Advisory Council 2015
26-28 November 2015, Athens
The EONS Advisory Council meetings are an excellent opportunity for representatives from our National Societies to meet, discuss needs and expectations and exchange ideas. We hold the meetings in conjunction with EONS Executive Board meetings.
Since 2012, every Advisory Council meeting has been held in a different country. Every spring we issue a call for bids so that National Societies who are interested in hosting the Advisory Council can respond. Then the Executive Board evaluates the bids before choosing the host country.
This year we had bids from the Hellenic Oncology Nursing Society and the Estonian Oncology Nursing Society. After careful deliberation at its May meeting, the Executive Board chose the bid from the Hellenic Oncology Nursing Society to host the event in Athens.
The venue for the November EONS Board meeting and EONS Advisory Council meeting was at the Royal Olympic Hotel situated in the center of Athens and with a splendid view on the Acropolis.
The Advisory Council meeting took place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November with 33 delegates from 19 countries participating. Daniel Kelly, EONS President and Anna Papadouri from the Hellenic oncology Nurses Association welcomed the participants. On Saturday 28 November all participants were invited to join the different working groups for brainstorming on different topics which resulted in very interesting feedback and ideas for the future.
