New internet domain name for NGOs

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) may soon be able to use internet domain names ending in .ong, short for the French <cite>organisation non gouvernementale</cite> for their websites. The registration of these domain names will be strictly controlled so that only legitimate NGOs are able to use them. This won't be as difficult a task as you might think, according to the director-general of the Public Internet Registry, because many countries already keep records of legitimate NGOs, and others will have networks of people able to verify the NGOs by reputation.
