Patient information initiative: Choosing Wisely

Better information allows patients to have better conversations with clinicians about their treatment, reducing the number of unnecessary tests and procedures. That is the thinking behind Choosing Wisely, a multi-organisation initiative recently launched in the United States. Over a dozen specialist medical organisations have contributed to the initiative by creating lists of tests and procedures in their field that are commonly ordered but not always necessary and may also be harmful.
