Support for EU response to cross-border health threats

The response to a recent EU consultation shows that most respondents support the Health Security initiative, which prepares a coordinated response to cross-border health threats. Most respondents said they wanted the EU to play a central role in coordinating national preparedness plans. The EU has been doing this since 1998 for communicable diseases, but the Health Security initiative is newer and is designed to cover all health risks.
