Split over tobacco laws
Added: Thursday 27 June 2013
There is a divide in the European Parliament over tobacco legislation.
Central and eastern member states such as Bulgaria are concerned that
tighter restrictions will harm their economies, so they are voting
against. Meanwhile, many MEPs
want the proposed rules to be tougher and are arguing for all tobacco
products to be sold in plain packaging with no logos. Tobacco is
currently the single largest avoidable health risk in the EU.
