More transparency for EU clinical trials

Added: Wednesday 14 May 2014

The European Parliament has passed a draft law which will make it compulsory for researchers to publish detailed summaries of clinical trial results in a publicly accessible database. Fines will be imposed on pharmaceutical companies and academic researchers who do not comply with the new rules. The law, which has now been through the First Reading stage, aims to improve on the existing Clinical Trials Directive by improving transparency. It will also facilitate cross-border collaboration by providing member states with a uniform framework for authorising clinical trials.
