ECND26 Competition Launch: Opportunity to share how cancer nurses support life beyond cancer

European Cancer Nursing Day (ECND) 2026 is an opportunity for cancer nurses across Europe to showcase their creative contributions to cancer nursing. The ECND theme this year is Supporting Life Beyond Cancer. We recognise the power of cancer nursing in supporting people beyond diagnosis and treatment, helping them live well across every stage of the cancer journey. 

Aim of the Competition: 

We want to showcase how cancer nursing: 

  • Improves quality of life after treatment 
  • Supports patients living with and beyond cancer 
  • Provides holistic, person-centred care 
  • Advances survivorship research and practice 
  • Ensures continuity of care across settings 

This is an opportunity to inspire colleagues, influence policy, and demonstrate the essential role of cancer nursing across the entire cancer journey. 

The competition is open to all registered cancer nurses across Europe, as individuals or teams. 

How to take part: 

You may submit one entry in one of the following formats: 

  1. Short story:  

Maximum 300 words 

Share a real example from your practice that demonstrates how cancer nurses support life beyond cancer.  

Your story could focus on: 

  • Survivorship or long-term follow-up care 
  • Supporting patients beyond active treatment 
  • Holistic or psychosocial care interventions 
  • Rehabilitation, late effects management, or lifestyle support 
  • Research or quality improvement in survivorship 
  • Supporting families and carers beyond treatment 

  2. Video  

Maximum 3 minutes  

You could create a short, engaging video highlighting:  

  • Your role in supporting life beyond cancer 
  • A survivorship initiative or innovation  
  • A patient-centred approach that extends beyond treatment  
  • The impact of cancer nursing on long-term outcomes 

  3. Photo with Caption  

You could submit a powerful image that reflects the ECND26 theme Supporting Life Beyond Cancer.  

Your submission must include:  

  • A compelling caption (maximum 100 words)  
  • Clear relevance to the ECND26 theme  
  • A strong, creative message aligned with ECND26 key messages  
Consent:

Consent in principle must be given by all persons featured in photos or videos, and more specifically for the photo or video to be shared on EONS platforms. 

Criteria: 

Submissions will be evaluated on how effectively they reflect the ECND26 theme Supporting Life Beyond Cancer and demonstrate the meaningful impact of cancer nursing on patients’ lives. The judging panel will assess each entry’s relevance to survivorship and long-term care, alongside its creativity, clarity, originality, and overall engagement potential particularly for photo and video submissions. 

Submission Process: 
  • Participants upload their files to a designated Google Drive folder via a provided link (see below). 
  • Submissions must include their name, role, organisation, and location. 
Prize: 
  • The winning individual or team will receive free registration to attend the EONS19 conference in Madrid, Spain, from October 24 to 26, 2026. 
  • The opportunity to present their winning initiative during the conference through a one-slide PowerPoint presentation and receive the ECND26 trophy. 
  • The winning video/slides will be featured on the ECND26 web page and in the EONS newsletter.
