Call for Applications: Early Career Nurses Working Group Membership

We are excited to announce the opening of applications for the EONS Early Career Nurses Working Group (ECN WG), a dynamic and collaborative team aimed at empowering and supporting the next generation of nursing professionals in cancer nursing nationally, at a European level and International.

We are seeking for two (2) passionate and dedicated early career nurses, who leave in a WHO Europe Country and have less than 5 years’ experience in cancer nursing.
About the ECN WG:

The Early Career Nurses Working Group of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) is a group designed to foster collaboration, mentorship, and professional development among early career cancer nurses. Members will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, collaborate on innovative projects and shape the future of cancer nursing. By joining this group, you will become part of a vibrant community of like-minded professionals committed to making a difference in the field of cancer nursing. The EONS ECN WG is in alignment with EONS mission, vision and Strategic Goals to support and improve the critical role that cancer nurses play in comprehensive cancer care and the professional development across Europe. The ECN WG shall have the mandate to assist the EONS Board to meet its goals related to early career and young cancer nurses.

Membership of the ECN WG is reviewed by the ECN co-Chairs. The ECN WG co-chairs, members and EONS Board work together to determine ECN needs and brainstorm new and potential tasks and members.

Description of Responsibilities:

The ECN WG is expected to be knowledgeable of the issues and needs of early career cancer nurses and cancer patients in Europe. ECNs are expected to provide advice on early career efforts and initiatives that can be taken up by EONS, and to provide feedback and reports on efforts undertaken by the society. 

Early Career Nurses have less than 5 years of experience in the sector and play an important role in bringing innovative ideas, fresh perspectives, and new skillsets into the workforce. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

▪ Actively participate in group discussions, meetings, and collaborative projects.

▪ Contribute expertise and insights to support the group's initiatives.

▪ Engage in the group activities and knowledge sharing with fellow members.

▪ Collaborate on EONS projects, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts related to nursing.

▪ Attend regular virtual meetings (the least is 50% per year) and occasional in-person events (6-8 meetings annually).

▪ Develop awareness of current issues and opportunities about early career and young cancer nurses for EONS to be represented.

▪ Build relationships with early career professional representatives of other healthcare organisations / societies.

▪ Participate in the development and implementation of the ECN WG work plan.

Who We Are Looking For:
We invite applications from early career nurses who:
  • Have been in cancer nursing (clinically, academically, research) no longer than five years.
  • Demonstrate a passion for cancer nursing and a strong commitment to professional development.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Are dedicated to advancing oncology practice, education, leadership, and networking.
  • Are enthusiastic about contributing ideas and actively participating in group activities.
  • Are individual EONS member or member of the National Oncology Nursing Society.
  • Are residents of a WHO Europe country.
Guidelines and ECN WG Members Terms:
  • ECN WG membership lasts till the WG member reaches the 7 years of experience in Cancer Nursing.
  • Being an ECN WG member is a volunteer role.
  • Each member commits to pursuing activities that contribute towards the achievement of the EONS Strategic Goals.
  • ECN WG members meetings may be held in person or via conference call.
  • ECN WG members actively participate in meetings, contributing to the discussion, brainstorming and sharing innovative ideas.
  • ECN WG members reviews the groups’ work, work plan and membership. Any members who have not attended regular meetings or documented activities to promote the ECN WG objectives for a period of 6 consecutive months will be removed from the membership list.
  • ECN WG members create an annual work plan outlining its calendar of major activities to be covered.
  • Members review material and provides input for improvement.
  • Members collaborate closely with other EONS working groups, individual members, National Societies.
Time Commitment for ECN WG Members

ECN WG members should anticipate giving an average of 2-3 hours per month to complete the activities.

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications by sending the following documents to EONS Secretariat at nikolina.dodlek@cancernurse.eu by Friday, August 29th 2025:

  • A resume or curriculum vitae detailing your nursing education, work experience, and any relevant achievements, clearly stating the years of experience in cancer nursing.
  • A cover letter (1 page max) outlining your motivation for joining the Early Career Nurses Working Group and the skills and perspectives you would bring to the team.
Selection timeline:

ECN WG co-chairs will process applications as quickly as possible. All applicants will be notified of the decision after completing the review, within three (3) weeks after the application deadline. Please note that application’s deadline may be extended.
