From 12 to 14 December 2025, EONS participated in the first in-person General Assembly of the European Youth Cancer Network (YARN), held in Bucharest and hosted by Youth Cancer Europe (YCE). Bringing together partners from 11 EU Member States and Ukraine, the meeting marked an important milestone for the Network and its collective mission.
EONS was represented at the General Assembly by President-Elect Wendy McInally, Board Member Dimitrios Protogiros, and Programme Manager Lukas Jovanovic, who actively contributed to discussions across the meeting.
The General Assembly provided a valuable platform to review progress across the project’s work packages, strengthen collaboration, and engage in meaningful discussions around shared priorities. Alongside the formal sessions, dedicated time for networking and reflection enabled partners to exchange insights and address key questions shaping the future direction of YARN.
Ahead of the Assembly, on 11 December, Katie and Shajjad Rizvi, founders of Little People Romania, generously hosted a Gala Christmas Ball, to which all YARN partners were invited. This memorable evening offered a special opportunity to celebrate the collective efforts of the Network and to experience the exceptional hospitality of our hosts. We extend our sincere thanks to Katie, Shajjad, and Youth Cancer Europe for making this event so meaningful.
Day one focused on key work packages including Quality of Life, Mental Health & Psychosocial Care, Education & Career Support, Long-Term Follow-Up and Transition of Care, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in cancer care.
Day two was equally engaging and productive. Partners explored the development and implementation of educational resources and support tools for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) living with advanced disease and those requiring palliative care. Discussions also addressed ongoing collaborations with other EU-funded initiatives, alongside interactive activities linked to the healthy lifestyle work package.
The final sessions reviewed progress in communication and dissemination activities, reflected on key outcomes from the first Youth Cancer Council meeting in Berlin, and looked ahead to upcoming initiatives. These include the launch of the ACE Academy at an EU institution early next year, the development of a series of podcasts, and other exciting outputs. The meeting concluded with an update on the redesign of the YARN digital platform, which has made significant progress and will be shared soon.
EONS extends its sincere thanks to all partners for their dedication and collaborative spirit, with special appreciation to Youth Cancer Europe for hosting such a successful and inspiring General Assembly.
