A new episode of the EONS Podcast is now available, focusing on the wellbeing of cancer nurses and the importance of supportive, healthy workplaces.
Hosted by Dimitrios Protogiros, EONS Board Member and Chair of the Early Career Nurses Working Group, this January episode features Maria Aggelaki, cancer nurse and psychologist, who shares her insights from more than a decade of experience in oncology and haematology care.
Together, they explore the everyday pressures faced by cancer nurses, including staff shortages, long shifts, and the cultural barriers that can make it difficult to speak openly about struggling at work. The conversation highlights what meaningful support for wellbeing really looks like — from compassionate leadership and protected time for breaks and debriefing, to peer support, accessible professional services, and involving nurses in decisions that affect their work.
The episode also emphasises that supporting the wellbeing of cancer nurses is not solely an individual responsibility, but a shared commitment of healthcare organisations, leaders, policymakers, and colleagues. As discussed, when cancer nurses are supported to thrive not just survive, the future of quality cancer care is strengthened.
