Statement from the European Oncology Nursing Society’s Board of Directors

The European Oncology Nursing Society’s (EONS) Board of Directors (the Board) acknowledges with deep regret the sudden and unexpected resignation of our President, interim Board Secretary, and Chief Operating Officer. This unprecedented development has presented a significant challenge to EONS.

The Board recognises that the circumstances leading to these resignations may have generated some concern and speculation within our community. While we respect the privacy of the individuals involved, we are committed to transparency and wish to clarify that the resignations were not anticipated and occurred without prior notice to the Board. The reasons cited by the President, interim Board Secretary, and Chief Operating Officer reflect a divergence of views regarding the future direction and governance of the Society. We acknowledge that such differences, while difficult, are sometimes part of the evolution of a dynamic and growing organisation.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the dedication, leadership, and service of those who have opted to resign.

In accordance with our statutes and by-laws, the Board will immediately initiate the necessary procedures to appoint interim officers and begin the process of selecting new leadership. Our priority remains to uphold the vision, mission, values and objectives of EONS, maintain transparency, and support our members throughout this period of transition. As a Board we are united and fully committed to strengthening our advocacy and fostering excellence in cancer nursing across Europe.

We encourage all members to remain engaged and supportive as we move forward. The Board will provide further updates as the situation evolves and welcomes any questions or concerns from our cancer community.

We thank our members for their ongoing commitment and trust in EONS.
