Madrid provided a wonderful opportunity for the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) Early Career Cancer Nurses Working Group to come together, reconnect and celebrate our shared commitment to advancing cancer nursing.
With members travelling from Croatia, Italy, Türkiye, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, the United Kingdom and as far afield as the United States, EONS19 was a truly international gathering of our working group.
One of the highlights was our face-to-face working group meeting, where we celebrated the progress made over the past year and explored our priorities and opportunities for the future. Bringing everyone together gave us space to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations and consider how we can continue supporting and amplifying the voices of early career cancer nurses across Europe and beyond.
We were particularly delighted to see so many working group members actively contributing to the EONS19 scientific programme. From chairing sessions to delivering invited talks and presentations, members including Irati, Nuria, Hazal, Mark and Ciara showcased the expertise and enthusiasm of early career cancer nurses. Thank you to Irati and Ciara, who represented the Early Career Working Group on the EONS19 Scientific Committee this year.
Of course, conferences are about much more than presentations! Sharing meals, catching up with colleagues and discussing the opportunities and challenges facing cancer nursing in different countries were equally rewarding experiences. We also took part in the Passport to Madrid, a social treasure hunt that encouraged networking and helped us build connections with the wider EONS community and conference delegates.
Being part of EONS19, alongside the wider ESMO Congress, reminded us of the importance of collaboration, international perspectives and ensuring that nursing voices are represented in conversations shaping the future of cancer care.
We leave Madrid feeling inspired, connected and excited about what comes next.
Thank you to everyone who made EONS19 such a memorable experience. We are already looking forward to EONS20 in 2027!
